The Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) Program in Manitoba is designed to prepare students for a successful career in the commercial trucking industry. This government-mandated training program provides the essential knowledge, safety awareness, and hands-on driving experience required to obtain a Manitoba Class 1 driver’s license.

The MELT Program includes comprehensive classroom instruction, practical in-yard training, and real-world behind-the-wheel driving experience to ensure students are fully prepared for the road and today’s transportation industry standards. Students learn vehicle inspections, defensive driving techniques, air brake systems, coupling and uncoupling procedures, and safe operation of commercial vehicles.

In Manitoba, all new Class 1 drivers are required to complete approved MELT training before booking their road test. The program consists of a minimum of 121.5 hours of standardized training that focuses on safety, professionalism, and industry readiness.

Graduates of the MELT Program gain the skills and confidence needed to pursue employment opportunities in the transportation and logistics industry across Manitoba and Canada. The demand for qualified Class 1 drivers continues to grow, making this training an excellent pathway toward a stable and rewarding career.
